Jess was a deeply empathetic psychologist, who suffered from anorexia and ultimately succumbed to the disease on June 4, 2023 a few weeks after her 42nd birthday on May 18th. Jess was an avid marathon runner, yogi and an exceptional university and high school athlete in her younger years. She brought humor, dedication, and sheer determination to everything she accomplished in her life. In fact, she motivated many of her friends and family to also run races, including marathons, to share her joy for the sport.
I met Jess at 10 years old, the summer before entering middle school. We easily connected and on the first day of 6th grade, she invited me over the next day after school. From there on we built a friendship of just over 32 years. Two friends, 2 days apart in age, both self-confessed stubborn, yet generous souls, the epitome of our shared Taurus zodiac sign.
This half marathon is not only a dedication to Jessica’s life but a reminder of the importance of therapy for those struggling with eating disorders. Jess was passionate about her career and had a calling to help others. May we continue to raise awareness of the toll eating disorders have on our society, families, and individuals and continue to embrace the power of mental health in supporting those suffering.
The funds donated will be directly utilized to support mental health services to patients of The Center for Eating Disorders at Princeton Health, in memory of Jessica Lutkenhouse. I am doing this in an effort to continue her professional work beyond her passing. It is encouraged that when making your donation to do so "In Memory" of Jessica.
