Advanced Diagnosis & Treatment Options

Advanced Treatment Options Include:

  • Chemotherapy
  • Immunotherapy
  • Radiation Therapy

Surgical Expertise

At Princeton Medical Center, our thoracic surgery capabilities include minimally invasive surgery. Robotic thoracic surgery is performed by a board certified thoracic surgeon who is chairman of surgery and employed by Penn Medicine Princeton Medicine Physicians. Procedures performed include thorascopy (biopsy and nodule removal), wedge resection (the removal of a small wedge-shaped piece of lung that contains cancer), lobectomy (the removal of a lobe in the lung that contains cancer) and lymph gland removal.

Because robotic thoracic surgery is performed through a few tiny incisions in the ribs, patients can avoid the possibility of a large incision and the possibility of having their lungs spread. The benefits of robotic thoracic surgery include:

  • Less Blood Loss
  • Shorter Hospital Stay
  • Less Pain
  • Faster Return to Normal Activities

Lung Cancer Screening

Princeton Medical Center also offers a Lung Cancer Screening Program as part of a collaborative effort with Princeton Radiology. A study by the National Cancer Institute has determined that low-dose radiation CT scans are better than traditional chest X-rays for detecting lung tumors. Scans offered at PMC can identify lung cancer nodules in high-risk individuals before symptoms begin and can help to save lives.

Based on the results from the National Lung Screening Trial (NLST), lung cancer screening is recommended for people who:

  • Are 50 to 80 years old and in fairly good health, and
  • Currently smoke or have quit in the past 15 years, and
  • Have at least a 20 pack-year smoking history. (this means 1 pack a day for 20 years, 2 packs a day for 10 years, etc.)
