Surgery is an anxious time for a child and his or her parents.

Our anesthesia care team includes physicians with specialized fellowship training to administer anesthesia to pediatric patients. They create an individualized anesthesia plan for each child. We also use special techniques to help children and their parents feel at ease, which may include:

  • Liquid medication to relieve a child's anxiety before entering the operating room.
  • A candy-scented mask through which a child can inhale anesthesia instead of receiving an injection.
  • Special monitoring equipment to continuously follow vital signs, second-by-second, during surgery.

Our nurses also have specialized training and extensive experience in working with children before, during and after surgery.
