Princeton Medical Center Receives an A in Patient Safety
Princeton Medical Center (PMC) has received another “A” in the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades, a peer-reviewed rating published twice annually to evaluate hospitals on how well they protect patients from preventable errors, accidents, injuries, and infections.
The Spring 2022 Hospital Safety Grades were released today by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization. The grades are based on more than 30 measures reflecting performance related to outcomes such as hospital-acquired infections, surgical errors, and patient falls, as well as the systems that hospitals have in place to help prevent harm.
“Congratulations to every staff member and physician who supports patient care at PMC,” said Penn Medicine Princeton Health CEO James Demetriades. “The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is a broad, evidence-based rating. An A grade is earned, never given, and it is a testament to the culture of safety that we foster not only at PMC but across Princeton Health.”
Nationwide, nearly 3,000 hospitals were evaluated, with 33 percent receiving A’s, 24 percent getting B’s, 36 percent receiving C’s, and 7 percent receiving D’s. Less than 1 percent received an F.
In New Jersey, 69 hospitals received grades. There were 30 A’s (including PMC), 16 B’s, 19 C’s, and four D’s.
