University Medical Center of Princeton Earns Top Grade for Patient Safety
October 31, 2016
University Medical Center of Princeton (UMCP) has earned an "A" in patient safety from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit working to improve the safety, quality and affordability of health care.
The A grade was announced today as part of the Fall 2016 release of The Leapfrog Group's Hospital Safety Score, a peer-reviewed rating system based on data related to preventable medical errors, injuries, accidents and infections. The grades also account for patient satisfaction scores. The Leapfrog Group publishes grades twice annually for approximately 2,600 hospitals nationwide. Only 32 percent of those hospitals earned A's in the Fall 2016 results.
"The Leapfrog Group is a respected, independent voice, and they do not give easy A's," said Barry S. Rabner, President and CEO of Princeton HealthCare System (PHCS), which includes UMCP. "This is an impressive achievement for our doctors, nurses and the rest of our staff, and it is another important indication to our patients and their loved ones that they can trust in the safety and quality of care that we provide."
In addition to its A grade from The Leapfrog Group, UMCP was recognized as a Best Regional Hospital in central New Jersey by U.S. News & World Report, ranking as the No. 8 hospital in New Jersey and No. 18 in the entire New York metropolitan region in the magazine's 2016-2017 hospital ratings. UMCP also has achieved Magnet® status, the highest institutional recognition available for nursing excellence.
