Help Available for the Newly Unemployed: Finding Affordable Health Insurance

As our region continues to grapple with the wide-ranging effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, Penn Medicine Princeton Health remains committed to providing care and service to the community.

Part of that commitment is helping to ensure that you and your loved ones have access to world-class healthcare right here in our community, even if you — like so many others — have recently lost your job and your health insurance.

We have a team of specially trained certified application counselors who can assist you in navigating the Health Insurance Marketplace that was created when the Affordable Care Act was passed. They can help you determine if there is a plan that is right for you.

Under federal regulations, to qualify for coverage through the Marketplace you must select a plan within 60 days of losing your job-based coverage. If you are already enrolled in COBRA, you may still have options in the Marketplace, including if your COBRA is running out or if your costs change.

For your appointment, you will need:

• Your social security number or document numbers for legal immigrants

• Employer and income information for every member of your household who will need coverage (pay stubs or W-2 forms)

• Policy numbers of any current health insurance plans covering members of your household

If you are not eligible for insurance through the marketplace, a representative from our Community Health Center can assist you with the application process and requirements to receive financial assistance for care through Medicaid Managed Care or Charity Care and can help direct you to other state and federal resources.
