Art for Healing—University Medical Center of Princeton to Exhibit Paintings by Joanne Augustine

University Medical Center of Princeton (UMCP) will host a wine and cheese reception on Friday, July 31, to mark the opening of an exhibit featuring works by local artist Joanne Augustine, an award-winning painter known for her depictions of flowers.

The reception is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Art for Healing Gallery, which is located in the concourse connecting UMCP to the Medical Arts Pavilion and the Bristol-Myers Squibb Community Health Center.

Attendees should park in Lot V1 at the front of the hospital and use the East Entrance. (Facing the hospital's glass façade, the East Entrance is to the right.) Once inside, attendees will be greeted and directed to the gallery.

Ms. Augustine, a member of the Princeton Artists Alliance, has won many awards in major exhibitions throughout the East Coast, including the Garden State Watercolor Society, New Jersey Watercolor Society and Phillips' Mill annual juried exhibition.

Her work was recently featured in America, through Artists' Eyes, an exhibit at the New Jersey State Museum in Trenton.

Paintings by Ms. Augustine are part of the permanent art collection at UMCP. The hospital's collection was acquired over several years, and the works are displayed throughout the hospital as part of the Art for Healing program. Research shows that viewing art, particularly images of nature, can alleviate anxiety and stress, reduce blood pressure, shorten hospital stays and even limit the need for pain medication.

The Art for Healing Gallery, made possible by a generous donation from Princeton Anesthesia Services, features a local artist on a rotating basis. Ms. Augustine's paintings will remain on display from July 24 through November 8. The artworks are available for purchase, and 20 percent of the proceeds benefit the hospital.
