Art for Healing—Tours of UMCP’s Art Collection Available on November 20

University Medical Center of Princeton (UMCP) will provide guided tours of its Art for Healing collection and offer attendees an opportunity to meet some of the featured artists during a special event Friday, November 20, beginning at 4 p.m.
The event, organized in conjunction with the Alliance for Arts & Health NJ (AAHNJ), is one of a series of events that AAHNJ will sponsor throughout New Jersey next month to celebrate November as "Arts & Health Month." For more information, please visit www.artpridenj.com.
The Art for Healing collection at UMCP includes more than 300 paintings, photographs, sculptures and other original works that are displayed throughout the hospital's public spaces and in patient areas as well. Research shows that viewing art can help alleviate stress and anxiety, reduce blood pressure, shorten hospital stays and even limit the need for pain medication.
The art was acquired over several years using donations to the Princeton HealthCare System (PHCS) Foundation. Works are selected by a committee that includes art and design experts, PHCS physicians, staff members, former patients and community members who are interested in the arts.
The collection features primarily local artists, many of whom will attend the November 20 event.
At 5:30 p.m. that day, UMCP's Art for Healing Gallery will host a reception to mark the opening of a new exhibit of paintings by local artist Jane Adriance. The gallery is located in the concourse connecting the hospital to the Medical Arts Pavilion. It features rotating exhibits of the work of artists whose work is included in the hospital's Art for Healing collection. Art exhibited in the gallery is available for purchase, and a portion of the proceeds benefit the hospital.
