ECT is performed under general anesthesia in our comfortable, state-of-the-art ECT suite. The treatment utilizes a small electrical current that helps release chemicals known to improve cellular-level connections within the brain.
Patients generally receive six to 12 treatments, administered three days a week. The treatment is performed by the evaluating psychiatrist, and anesthesia is administered by a board certified anesthesiologist. Nurses certified in advanced cardiac life support are present throughout the treatment.
ECT is offered on an inpatient and an outpatient basis at 1000 Herrontown Road, across the street from the main campus of Princeton House Behavioral Health in Princeton.
